We care about sight lines to the garden, where natural light lands at 4pm in winter, and whether the fridge door blocks the only path to the table. Those details decide if the room feels calm or constantly in the way.
Extensions and open backs
When the back wall comes down, the kitchen becomes a living room that happens to cook. Zoning matters. You still need a work triangle that does not turn dinner into a public performance, and a seating edge that does not trap people against a hot hob.
We draw for real Dublin evenings: someone finishing homework at the island while someone else plates food, and a third person trying to open the patio door. If that sequence is smooth, the room works.
Storage you will actually use
City homes collect things. The best kitchens hide the chaos without making every door a mystery. Tall housings for appliances, deep drawers for pans, a real home for recycling. Pretty is optional. Usable is not.
