A small kitchen that still works hard
Small is not a failure of the house. It is a design brief. Done well, a compact kitchen can feel calmer than a big one that fights itself.
Protect the walkway
In a small room, every millimetre of clear floor is gold. Doors that open into each other, stools that never tuck in, and appliance doors that block the only exit will make a tiny kitchen feel hostile. We prioritise movement first, then storage.
Vertical storage, not cluttered walls
Going tall is often smarter than filling every wall with shallow cupboards. One well planned tall run can hold food, cleaning kit and appliances while leaving a cleaner, brighter run of worktop for actual cooking.
We avoid the temptation to show every door style in one small room. Fewer gestures, better light, better daily use.
One strong place to gather
Even in a compact plan, people need a perch: a short run of breakfast bar, a window seat, a table that folds the room into social space. Without that, the kitchen becomes pure circulation and never feels like the heart of the home.
If your Dublin or townhouse kitchen feels tight, we can usually find a plan that respects the walls you have and still gives you a room you enjoy being in.
